The Brief

Batt Building Services was hired to modernise and expand a partial clay-lump property with structural issues, adapting it to better suit the homeowner’s needs. The client wanted a new single-storey extension to replace an old conservatory, creating additional rooms, including a home office, downstairs toilet, utility room, and an open-plan kitchen diner.

The Solution

To tackle the project, Batt Building Services planned and executed a thorough renovation and extension while overcoming challenges presented by the property’s unique structure and materials.

Conservatory Removal: The first step was to carefully deconstruct and remove the conservatory to create space for the new extension.
Single-Storey Extension: Added a high-quality extension that offered more space for the existing and new rooms of the property. Designed to blend seamlessly with the existing building.
Structural Reinforcement: Steel supports were installed to stabilise the structure, as some areas had been built directly on the ground, leading to concerns with structural integrity.
Renovation to Add Rooms: Added the requested new rooms, including the home office, downstairs toilet, utility room, and spacious kitchen diner.

The Result

Due to the property’s partial clay lump — that had been altered in the 70s — and the issue with structural integrity, this was a challenging project, but our problem-solving ability and years of experience meant that we could overcome these challenges to deliver the customer a stunning home extension, and to create a functional home with new rooms added via extensive renovation work.
