Completing a side extension project the right way

The Brief

Our team was engaged to extend a family home by removing an outdated 1980s single-storey structure that featured a bathroom and utility space. This spacious two-storey rear and side extension project involved building in place of the existing extension, providing a downstairs shower room and sun lounge, as well as a master bedroom with an en suite upstairs. The home extension project also included a full property rewiring to bring the home’s electricals up to date, plus relocating the main bathroom for a more practical layout.

The Solution

  • Solving Architectural Concerns:
    • Main Bathroom Relocation: With plans drawn by an external architect for a new main bathroom to be integrated with the new master suite, we had to step in as this would have made the master suite too small. Liaising with the customer directly, we agreed it would be best to convert another bedroom into the new main bathroom, and this task was then added to the overall project.
    • Incorrect Roof Drawings: Unfortunately, the customer was given incorrect roof drawings by an external architect, so we had to think fast and adjust our plans to accommodate the correct roof type.
  • Updated Home Extension: We removed the home’s current extension with care and precision. This made space for us to construct a two-storey extension that provided a new ground-floor shower room and a sun lounge. Upstairs, a master bedroom with en suite was created
  • Electrical Overhaul: We completely rewired the property to meet modern safety standards. To work around the customer’s schedule, we completed the electrical work while the family were on holiday.

The Result

The completed two-storey extension transformed the functionality and style of the home, creating more space and a fresh, modern aesthetic across two new floors. The new layout, with a relocated main bathroom, provides an improved dynamic. Lastly, the rewiring brought the property up to current standards, ensuring a safe and efficient electrical system for the household.
